The problems with the flyover come hot on the heels of the other controversial proposal from Conservative run Essex County Council, Baddow BusGate which is to stop cars coming out of Baddow Road onto the roundabout at peak times. This has been vigorously opposed by local residents (who formed an action group) and the Liberal Democrats. Local Lib Dem campaigners, David Jones & Cllr Mark Springett, said they were frustrated that the Council hasn’t been listening to local residents’ concerns, saying: “It’s as if they just don’t care.”, “why can’t they see what is so obvious to thousands of local residents!”.
The Tories are just not listening to the serious concerns of residents! If BusGate goes ahead the traffic jams in the picture above will become routine in Moulsham Lodge.
It is another example of the lack of capacity in the road network around Chelmsford and the Council’s lack of infrastructure provision. Development without investment in a transport strategy has led to the present lack of capacity on the roads leading into the city, leading to congestion and poor air quality and we should demand better for Chelmsford.
